Baggage rules on Greek domestic flights
What cabin bag do Greek domestic carriers allow?
As read September 22, 2026: Aegean, 8 kg at 56 x 45 x 25 cm; Olympic Air, 8 kg at 55 x 40 x 23 cm; SKY express, 8 kg at 55 x 40 x 23 cm on economy fares. Each also allows a personal item.
Every figure on this page comes from the operating carrier's own baggage or fare page, and each page was read on September 22, 2026. The carrier is named beside every figure, so any one of them can be re-checked without re-checking the rest.
These allowances change by fare class, and carriers revise them between seasons. The date here is the date the statement was true and nothing later; none of the pages read carries a statement of how long its current terms hold.
Why the domestic fare sets the limit
A checked allowance written into a transatlantic ticket belongs to that ticket. A separately booked domestic flight carries its own allowance, and on the lowest fares all three carriers below publish no included checked bag.
The aircraft change too. Olympic Air publishes a smaller cabin-bag size for its own flights than for flights operated with the Aegean jet fleet, and that difference is set out in its section below.
Lithium batteries, power banks and the cabin-only rules that govern them are covered on power banks and flight rules. This page does not restate them.
Aegean Airlines
Aegean's baggage allowance page, read September 22, 2026, permits one piece of cabin baggage on Aegean-operated flights. It may weigh no more than 8 kg and measure no more than 56 x 45 x 25 cm.
The same page allows a personal item, such as a handbag, laptop bag or small backpack, provided it fits under the seat in front. Where cabin storage is full, the page states the cabin bag is checked in free of charge at boarding.
On checked baggage, Aegean's page classes the first piece as extra baggage on a Light or a Flex ticket. On the date checked, neither of those fares included a checked bag.
The page sets the checked-bag size limit as a sum of length, width and height of 158 cm. A checked bag over 23 kg and up to 32 kg is classed as overweight.
The Aegean page, as read, gives the personal item by where it fits rather than by a dimension in centimeters. A fixed personal-item size for Aegean is something the record doesn't hold.
Olympic Air
Olympic Air's cabin baggage page, read September 22, 2026, allows one personal item that fits under the seat in front and one carry-on bag. The carry-on may not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm, handles, pockets and wheels included, or 8 kg, and it has to fit the overhead bin.
The same page gives a different limit where the flight is operated with the Aegean fleet, naming the A319, A320 and A321. On those aircraft the carry-on limit is 56 x 45 x 25 cm.
The gap between the two is 1 cm in length, 5 cm in height and 2 cm in depth. A bag cut to the Aegean jet limit can exceed the Olympic Air limit, and which aircraft operates a given island route on a given day is not something the record holds.
Olympic Air's checked-baggage terms follow the same fare structure as Aegean's. Extra baggage begins at the first piece on a Light or Flex ticket, at the second on ComfortFlex, and at the third in Business Class.
Read in reverse, that places one included checked piece on ComfortFlex and two in Business Class. The page gives the checked-bag size limit as 158 cm in total length, width and height, and treats a bag over 23 kg and up to 32 kg as overweight.
A bag of up to 32 kg that exceeds 158 cm is charged as special baggage, per the same page. The charge itself is not reproduced here.
SKY express
SKY express sets out its allowances on its fare types page, read September 22, 2026. Every fare carries up to one piece of hand luggage at 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
The hand-luggage weight limit is 8 kg on SKY Joy, SKY Joy+ and SKY Enjoy. On BLISS and BLISS+ it is 13 kg.
Every SKY express fare also carries one small personal item of up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Of the three carriers' pages as read, it is the only one that gives the personal item as a dimension.
Checked baggage steps up by fare. SKY Joy includes none, SKY Joy+ includes 15 kg, SKY Enjoy includes 23 kg, and BLISS and BLISS+ include two pieces of 32 kg each per passenger.
The page states that children aged 2 to 12 carry the same limits as adults. An infant's folding stroller is checked free of charge.
The SKY express page does not separate its standard allowances by aircraft type. It separates ATR and Airbus handling only for special items such as sports equipment.
The three carriers side by side
The cabin-bag weight limit is 8 kg on every economy fare at all three carriers, per the pages read September 22, 2026. The published dimensions differ: Aegean at 56 x 45 x 25 cm, and Olympic Air and SKY express at 55 x 40 x 23 cm on their own operations.
The lowest fare at each carrier, Light at Aegean and Olympic Air and SKY Joy at SKY express, includes no checked bag. The first fare with an included checked bag is ComfortFlex at Olympic Air and SKY Joy+ at SKY express; SKY express gives 15 kg, while the Olympic Air page as read gives the ComfortFlex allowance by piece, not by weight.
For Aegean, the page as read confirms that Light and Flex exclude a checked bag. What each higher Aegean fare includes on a domestic sector is something the record doesn't hold.
What the pages leave open
None of the three pages, as read, lists which carrier operates which island route in a given month. That question sits with the carriers' own schedules, and the record doesn't hold it.
None of them states how a checked allowance on a long-haul ticket is treated when a domestic sector is booked on the same ticket. The record doesn't hold that either.
None of them gives a figure for what a cabin bag over the limit costs at the gate. This site publishes no price that did not come from its own ledger, and no carrier charge appears here.
Where the baggage limit bears on the route
The choice between an island flight and a ferry is set out on flying vs ferries in Greece. The baggage limit on the lowest domestic fares is one of the terms that differs between the two.
How ferries and island-hopping work, from booking to boarding, is covered on ferries and island-hopping. That page settles the sea route; this one covers only the air allowance.
Kefalonia is one of the seven places the site has stood in, and its airport is covered on the Kefalonia airport page. Arrival flow at the Athens airport, where a long-haul allowance ends and a separately booked domestic one begins, is covered on the Athens airport page.
Sparti and Kalamata sit in the Peloponnese, and a reader reaching them by road rather than air meets car-hire rules instead of baggage rules. Those are set out on driving in Greece.
The rest of the site's planning explainers sit under planning, and the site's airport pages under airports.
Common questions
No. Aegean's baggage allowance page, read September 22, 2026, treats the first checked piece as extra baggage on both Light and Flex tickets.
Per SKY express's fare types page, read September 22, 2026: SKY Joy none, SKY Joy+ 15 kg, SKY Enjoy 23 kg, and BLISS or BLISS+ two pieces of 32 kg each per passenger.
Aegean's baggage page, read September 22, 2026, states that when cabin storage is full the cabin bag is checked in free of charge at boarding.
Each carrier's page sets the allowance by the domestic fare booked. How a through ticket with a long-haul carrier treats the domestic sector is something the record doesn't hold.
Both give 158 cm as the sum of length, width and height, per pages read September 22, 2026. Olympic Air charges a bag of up to 32 kg over that size as special baggage.
