Is Naxos worth visiting?
We flew in from Athens on July 15, 2025 — a scheduled 45 minutes — and saw enough of Naxos to say it is unusually varied for a Cycladic island: a marble doorframe standing alone above the harbour, long shallow beaches down the west coast, and a mountain interior high enough to look back down over all of it. What we did not do is log what any of it cost, so this guide describes places and is careful about prices.

The Portara above the harbour is the image most people arrive with — a freestanding marble doorframe on an islet joined to the town. Beyond it, the island runs to long west-coast beaches on one side and a high interior on the other, which is more variety than a short visit can properly cover.
We flew, from Athens, on July 15, 2025. The booking gives the flight as 11:30 to 12:15 — about 45 minutes in the air. That is the scheduled block on our own ticket rather than a time we measured, and it is worth remembering that a 45-minute hop is not a 45-minute journey once the airport at each end is counted.
Four parts of it: the town, the beaches at Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna, Plaka further down the coast, and an evening high on the slopes inland. That is where our photographs are, and it is the extent of what this guide describes.
One. Our hotel quoted airport taxis at 25,00€ per taxi each way in July 2025, in writing, and we paid it. Beyond that the log caught nothing on the island — no meal, no lounger, no entry. The one figure is on the [cost page](/destinations/naxos/what-it-costs) with its basis stated.
Our record covers Naxos and one evening on Tinos, which is not enough of the Cyclades to rank anything. We would be repeating other people’s comparisons, and that is not what this site is for.
