Is the Athens Riviera worth staying on?
The Athens Riviera — the coastal suburbs south of the city, from Glyfada through Voula to Vouliagmeni — is where a Greece trip most usefully begins and ends. It sits about half an hour from the airport, closer than central Athens, and it puts you on the water for a first or last night instead of in city traffic with luggage.

The coastal strip south of central Athens. Glyfada, Voula, and Vouliagmeni are its best-known suburbs, about half an hour by car from the airport.
For nights bracketing a flight, the Riviera — it is closer to the airport and you get the coast. Base centrally only when the Acropolis and the museums are the point of the stay.
Glyfada for dining, shopping, and the widest choice of places to stay; Vouliagmeni for the calmer, more resort-like end of the coast; Voula sits quietly between the two.
