How does Kefalonia airport work?
EFL is small and sits near Svoronata on the south coast. Our flights to and from Athens in July 2026 were scheduled at about an hour each way, and our hotel was in Svoronata too. We did not rent a car: we used taxis for the whole stay, and the island is large enough that the rides were long.
Kefalonia's airport sits near Svoronata on the south of the island. It handles domestic flights from Athens year-round and seasonal international arrivals in summer.
We used it twice in July 2026. The flight in from Athens was scheduled at 12:50 to 13:55 on July 8, and the flight back at 14:25 to 15:30 on July 13: about an hour each way, gate to gate, on the booking. Our hotel for the five nights, Electra Kefalonia, is in Svoronata too.
We did not rent a car here. We used taxis for the whole stay in July 2026 — the easiest option to get on the island, though the fares add up over a stay — and the rides were long, because the places in our record sit far apart on winding roads. Getting around has the rest of what we know.
We logged no timings at the terminal in either direction, so this page says nothing about queues, security or how early to arrive. It describes the two flights we took and the island we took them to, dated, and stops there.
