Is Kalamata worth visiting?
Kalamata is a working city on the Messenian Gulf — a port and a market town with a long seafront, rather than a place built for visitors. We stayed three nights there in July 2026. What we can show you is the card record of those days, charge by charge and merchant by merchant. What we cannot show you is a euro price, because the statement behind them recorded dollars only.

No. It is a working Greek city that happens to have a seafront, and the difference shows: the promenade runs past beach clubs and municipal buses in the same block. We are describing three nights in it, not making a case for or against it.

No, and we will not manufacture them. The card statement recorded dollars after conversion, and the euro amounts do not exist anywhere in our records. Converting the dollars back at a mid-market rate would produce a number that is neither what was paid nor what was billed, which on a site built on checkable figures is worse than publishing nothing.

About 2 hours from the airport, motorway for most of it, and the tolls want cash. We came into Kalamata from Kefalonia rather than from Athens on this trip, so that figure belongs to our [driving notes](/planning/driving-in-greece) rather than to these three nights.
