How many days do you need on Poros?

Two nights is the answer for most people, and it is not a compromise number. Poros is small enough that two nights covers the town, the clock tower, the waterfront, and enough beach time to feel like a stay rather than a stop — and short enough that a third night has to be wanted for its own sake rather than needed for the sightseeing.

One night works, with a specific use. Poros sits close enough to Piraeus to be the first or last island on a Saronic run, and a single night here breaks up the sequence without costing a day. That is a different trip from the two-night version: you see the town and the water, you do not see much else, and that can be exactly right when the island is a link in a chain rather than the destination.

The day trip is also real, and worth naming because most islands cannot support one. A fast ferry out and a fast ferry back leaves roughly six hours ashore, which is enough for the waterfront, a swim, and a meal at an unhurried pace. It is the shortest honest introduction to a Greek island available from Athens, and the reason it works is the one-hour crossing rather than anything about the island itself.

Three nights or more changes the register entirely. At that length you stop covering Poros and start using it — the same beach two afternoons running, the crossing to Galatas for no reason, the clock tower climb in the evening instead of the middle of the day. Nothing on the island demands a week, but nothing about a slow week here is wasted either, particularly with children who benefit more from a repeated place than a new one.

The one thing worth planning around is July heat rather than time. Whatever the length, the local rhythm — early, then water, then late — gets more out of each day here than an extra night would.
