Is Greece still cheap?
No. Greece carries a budget-Mediterranean reputation the dated record no longer supports: a €365,50 family dinner at Costa Navarino (printed receipt, July 27, 2025), a €1.813,54 night at the Four Seasons Astir Palace in Vouliagmeni (booking confirmation, July 2024), and cocktails posted at 11–15€ at a Kefalonia beach club (July 2026). The dollar figure is a different kind of thing entirely. $2,644.18 is the sum of twenty-three charges that hit a US card between July 8 and 23, 2026, after conversion and with whatever markup the card applied. It is not a euro total and must never be read as one. Converting it back at a mid-market rate would produce a number that is neither what we paid in euros nor what the bank charged — on a site built entirely on checkable figures, the worst of the three available numbers.
More importantly, $2,644.18 is a floor rather than a trip cost. It covers meals, groceries, fuel, incidentals, and one $114.73 domestic airline charge. It excludes lodging across five hotels, the transatlantic fares, the rental car, the tolls, and — the significant one — everything paid in cash.
