Getting to and around the Athens Riviera
How do you get to the Athens Riviera?
From the airport, by road in about half an hour: the Riviera is closer to ATH than central Athens is, and each July in our record we went straight there on landing. In July 2026 we had a rental car for the last two Riviera nights, after the mainland drive.
Half an hour from the airport is the figure this page is built on: the Riviera is closer to Athens International than central Athens is. Each July in our lodging record — 2024, 2025 and 2026 — we went from the airport straight to this coast for the first night, and came back to it for the last.
Our July 2026 stay shows both ends. The first two nights, in Glyfada, came straight off the overnight flight. The last two, in Glyfada again, came at the end of the mainland drive, with the rental car we returned at the airport on the morning we flew home. The card record from those last nights includes a dinner at Baron in Glyfada, billed $136.57 on July 21, and fuel the same day.
The coast road runs south from Glyfada through Voula and Vouliagmeni and on to Cape Sounion at the tip of the peninsula, where we went in July 2026. We swam at Lake Vouliagmeni that July too, and the beach clubs along the shore are in the record — Royal Beach in Vouliagmeni billed our card $109.41 on July 8, 2026. We did not log the drives, the times, or what the lake or Sounion cost.
Central Athens does not appear in this record as a day out from the coast, so this page says nothing about the trip into the city. It describes how we moved on this coast, dated, and not how anyone else should.

We cannot say what anyone needs. We had a rental for the last two Riviera nights of July 2026. We went down the coast road to Cape Sounion that July too; the drives were not logged.
It is how we have used it. In each of the three Julys our lodging record covers — 2024, 2025 and 2026 — we went from the airport straight to the coast and spent the first night there: Vouliagmeni the first two years, Glyfada the third. That is a description of what we did, not a recommendation.
